I have no actual memories of this birthday, of course, but I can tell you that cake was Angel Food. Mom often made Angel Food cakes for birthdays and she would cover the little hole in the center with a canning jar lid and frost over it. Easier than frosting down the hole, I guess.
Just thinking about Angel Food cake makes my mouth water. I haven't had one in years. I have vivid, tasty memories of dipping my finger into the batter as it was being poured. I don't know how to describe the taste. Was it tangy? Sweet, but with a very peculiar kind of kick?
The dog in the background is Poochie. She was our family pup when I was a kid. I believe she was a rescued dog. The story was that there were two of them that someone in my family picked up... I want to say on the Ford-Ensign Road. The other one was dark in color, but only Poochie lived. I honestly don't know how long Poochie was in our family, but my sense is that she got there before I did. She was a great dog. She died when I was about five. It was hard for me. I think she grew blind and I know she started having seizures of some kind before she passed away. I do remember that.
Here's another photo of Poochie, wearing my brother's glasses.

you're so cute!
Adorable! I know the taste you are describing in angel food batter. Maybe it's lemon or a combination with the egg whites, but it is a distinct experience! I love it your mom didn't frost the hole! The lid trick is a good one!
What a cutie! I love seeing pictures of people I know when they were little. Your cake is great - angel food is my favorite, too. But how did your mom let you hold it? Brave woman! LOL Magoo's Mom
Hee hee! If you look closely, there's a big person hand there holding the cake! I doubt I could have held a cake that size at the age of two. It looks pretty substantial!
