Books, but none reviewed...

I double-dog-dare ALL who pass this way to leave me a comment and tell me what you are currently reading. Pretty Please!!

Yesterday I managed to make it to the the local independent bookstore for an awesome gathering of 40+ authors. Check out Cheryl's site for details. I almost didn't let myself go because I knew it would be so tempting to spend money. I can hardly resist a book anyway, and a book that the author passes to me him/herself is downright impossible to pass on. I went, however, because I wanted to say hello to a few fellow Kansas Authors Club members and I wanted to meet Deborah Raney in person. She helped me a few years ago by judging a contest I chaired. And I picked up the freebies Cheryl pictured on her site -- the snake guide being especially timely for us. In fact, Mr. Collins helped me confirm that the snakes we ran into a while back where, indeed, northern water snakes. Entirely harmless. Yeah!

The last book I finished reading:
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, by Ann Brashares
Munchkin #1 just finished the second in the series and I've long been telling myself I need to read more of what she's reading to keep up with what is going on inside her head. I'm not sure if I can keep up. I enjoyed this one. Made me cry a lot. And since it was the first book published by Ann Brashares, I read it with an extra critical eye, but couldn't really find anything to complain about.

Now reading:
Big Stone Gap, by Adriana Trigiani
This is our book club read for the month of June. So far, I'm enjoying it.

Also have bookmarks in:
Star Wars, The Trail of the Jedi, by Jude Watson
Little Boy has taken a GREAT interest in Star Wars of late. He specifically requested that we find lego Star Wars books, but this is the closest I could come to at the library. He tells me we will read the entire series even though we have started on book 2.

Just Folks: Earthy Tales of the Prairie Heartland, by Jerry Engler
This is my latest Kansas author acquisition. Short stories. I've enjoyed them so far.

So seriously, what are you reading?

Hey! This weekend I read TWO books! "The Ruins" by Scott Smith, a vacation I would never want to take, and "Skylight Confessions" by Alice Hoffman. I love Alice Hoffman. This story was much better than the book jacket description, which was very dry and soap operaish. I've read eight of her books, and I plan to read the rest this year. Aidan is also reading the Star Wars books. Any and all.

I'm working on "Between Georgia." I started it several weeks ago, didn't get to it on vacation, so I restarted it again the other evening.

Also, I'm rereading a book I've had a long time "Writing Life Stories: How to make memories into memoirs, ideas into essays, and life into literature" by Bill Roorbach. A great book.

I currently am reading the 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership, which came strongly recommended by a client, and back issues of Sports Illustrated. (I am now only one week behind!)
