Ever since we started looking at this house and the big, wonderful yard around it, I've been dreaming about how I was going to fill the yard and make it a haven for my family. Before we even had the keys to the house I determined that my first project was going to be a sandbox. At least two of my kids are still young enough to enjoy hours of digging in the sand and I thought it was something I could easily and inexpensively do myself.
So last week, between vacations, I put together a 10'x10' box. I fashioned a sort of seat on each corner (just in case someone wants to dig without actually putting their heiney in the sand) and the kids worked on painting it in assorted colors. On Monday, we added the sand...
And then we went back to the store and bought twice as much sand... and added some more.
And then we determined that perhaps we could just continue adding a bag or two a week until the thing was finally full.
10'x10'!!! That's one big sand box!
They played for hours, just as I thought they would, so it was worth it, and I'd probably make it that big again.
This morning, however, I was sweeping the floors in the house. They were long overdue, but it seemed to me quite a bit grittier than usual. Sure enough, I ended with a fairly sizeable pile of golden grains of sand. It was like a mini-sandbox, right here in the house.
Just one more thing I hadn't really considered when building my very first sandbox.

Oh my!
Sounds like a great project for you and the kids and I'm sure they love it.
Maybe they can save their pennies and buy you an industrial size dust-buster! ;)
