Last night a couple came into the store where I work as a desktop publisher. They were trying to figure out how they were going to handle their wedding invitations. It was going to be a rather small affair, informal... and most importantly, they needed to get the invites out soon becuase the wedding was to take place in June!
It had been a rather slow night, so I was able to give them my full attention. I took them through the papers and talked about the different options they had for printing. The endless possibilities were perhaps a bit overwhelming, so I guided them toward our nice paper for in-house printing and suggested a simple postcard-type design might be the way to go. We found some pretty borders in the clipart book and a dove design that they both liked. I sent them shopping on the office supply side of the store while I made up a quick draft of their inviation.
They were thrilled, as was I. The end product was simple, elegant, and attractive on the blue marble card stock they picked out. They lived an hour away and had been hoping to at least place their order so that they only had to return once to pick it up. Because it was a small order, I was able to go ahead and print it while they waited.
It was cool -- thinking that I had played a part in this couple's future. They seemed so happy together, and I loved the way they communicated with each other, politely considering one another's input before making decisions. When I looked at Jerry's license, in order to take his check, I noted his birthday. He was born in 1933... 72 years old and he still has new and exciting things to look forward to.
Makes you smile, doesn't it?
