School has been a subject of recent conversation in our house, primarily because I've been organizing and collecting materials for a book for my 20 year class reunion. In spite of the fact that we homeschool, and my experiences through and beyond my own schooling have led me to take a very different path with my own family, I really don't have the hard feelings and cynicism about class reunions that many people seem to have. I had a fairly large graduating class. I wasn't close to all of them, but knew many of them. As an adult, I've found that I really appreciate getting back in touch and seeing where their lives have taken them.
I am actually struck more by the similarities than the differences, at this point. Whatever our roles were in high school, the goals and the struggles have been similar since. Family. Friends. Finding satisfying careers and lifestyles. A couple of my classmates have done some extensive traveling and have lived in far off and exotic (at least, to me) places. It's cool to see how the various people I knew are now living so many things that we once only imagined as possible. Some got out (in spite of all the use it's gotten, we owned the "get the hell out of Dodge" sentiment). Some stayed. Some left and went back, or stayed and then left.
I have to say that the Dodge City Senior High Class of 1988 turned out to be a pretty great bunch of people. At least, that's been my experience.
So for Timeless Tuesday, here are some photos that provoke some of my favorite memories from high school.
Among my best buds from high school; Adina, Lis & Ann Marie. I am actually struck more by the similarities than the differences, at this point. Brett & Bill -- I don't exactly remember why, but we all brought breakfast to be eaten on the school lawn this day.
My sandbox buddies - one joy of growing up in rural western Kansas, my neighbors remained pretty much the same through my entire childhood. John, Bill, & Doug were friends and our families were friends. It was nice to be surrounded by people who were always there.
Yvette, myself, Adina, Ann Marie & Callie.
Laura and I with our yearbook advisor (yep, still keep in touch with both of them). Guess I haven't changed my role from high school much. I'm still the "yearbook" geek.
