Timeless Tuesday: My Grandmother's Family

My grandmother (father's side) passed away when I was six. I was fortunate to know her many sisters (5), however, and I guess I always felt a little like that made up for the fact that I didn't have my grandmother for as long as I would have liked. I made a copy of this photo at the funeral of one of those aunts a few years ago. Aunt Evelyn was the youngest of my grandmother's sisters and probably the one I felt I knew the best for the longest.

I was looking at this photo this morning, however, and realized I'm not 100% solid on who is who. This is why you should pull all those old photos out and get help labeling them!

Updated 1/18/08, Thanks, Dad!
Top Row: Carl Dean, Esther, Henrietta Leona

Middle: Evelyn, Louis Rudolph, Christena

Bottom: Leona Henrietta, Dean Carl, Edna

It's very possible that I have Henrietta, Leona and Evelyn mixed up in identification.

When I was a kid, I always got confused about Carl. Esther also married a Carl and, in my mind, Carl's wife, Francis, was one of the sisters instead of married to my grandmother's brother.

Esther was the one who lived in the house my family later bought and I grew up in. That connection always made her extra special to me.

Henrietta is still living. My grandfather used to take me to "Henri's Place" to go fishing. One time she had this beautiful Lemon meringue pie and she served me an entire quarter of a piece for dessert. I didn't know, until that meal, that I really didn't like Lemon meringue pie!

Louis Rudolph would be my great grandfather.

Christena (middle right) is my grandmother.

Dean and Edna are also still living. Aunt Edna always lived in Dodge City, as well, but I really didn't get to know her until her husband passed away. She was a hoot. Lots of fun and full of energy.

What a beautiful family!
I've been saying for years that I was going to collect photos and stories about each family member and put them together into a book before we forget the funny stories about everyone.
Still haven't done it but this is a great reminder. Maybe 2008 will be the year I finally pull it off!
