Pause the Game, Please

My son has a habit of asking us to pause. I suppose it is the result of computer games and movies on DVD. You want to go grab a bite to eat? Push the pause button. You need to use the restroom? Pause the game.

It's funny though when he uses it in the middle of a conversation. "Pause," he might say when he wants to ask me a question and I'm in the middle of something else. He often pushes my pause button when I'm reading a story outloud. Sometimes he'll ask the entire family to pause while he dashes from the room to get something when he doesn't want to miss the action.

Today is October 18th and I've just finally managed to get up Halloween decorations. It's deplorable, I know. For someone who loves Halloween and is usually getting antsy by late September to get the kids in costume and decorate the house -- waiting past mid-October to hang up last year's giant spider on the house is just plain sad. We made tombstones and have a ghostly woman on the porch, as well.

And luckily, my father supplied us with ginormous pumpkins and we have a few small ones from the farmer's market. None of them are Jack O'Lanterns... yet. Perhaps there is still a free weekend we can devote to that activity.

PAUSE.

That's what I want to say to the world. Just hang on a second while I catch up. Don't let anything important happen while I work to clear off my desk. I just need to get to the bottom of this stack. I need the rest of the world to just slow down so that I can speed up and get back in step.

I need my son's pause button.

I need it for just a day or two so that I can catch up.

Luckily along with the "Pause" button there is a "Play" and "Fast Forward". If we could only get the "Rewind" button to work. Enjoyed your post. OC
