It's 4-H fair time in Emporia! We've spent the last two days almost entirely devoted to fair activities. Lots of prep yesterday (all last week, really). Both girls were taking foods so there was a bit of last minute project work. Each made at least one batch of cookies that flopped (but still tasted good) so we've had a lot of fun kitchen time. The kitchen, in fact, is still a mess. But that's okay.
This morning was dedicated to taking projects in to the fair and waiting for conference judging. Blue and purple ribbons all around. We didn't make it back to view exhibits because we spent the afternoon and evening working at the Cloverleaf Diner. For a few hours we had the entire family there working, but Munchkin #1 and I hung out until it closed after 11 o'clock. Exhausting, but good times.
The best part is that now all these folks that have become acquaintances through 4-H meetings are starting to feel like friends. We've been here just over a year and I'm finally starting to feel like I am surrounded, at least a bit, by familiar faces.
Tomorrow I hope to log a few leisurely hours at the fair. Caught glimpses of some really amazing projects. Looking forward to going back and seeing them up close.
