And it's a Big 8!!!

Can you believe she's eight years old today?!?!?!

When I was pregnant with Maddie, I was determined to have a second midwife experience. Unfortunately, midwives were few and far between in western Kansas. So we ended up renting a little apartment in Wichita and my sister and I, along with soon-to-be big sister Evie, spent the last couple weeks of my pregnancy being tourists in the "big" city.

It was fun, but I was homesick. Rand would come visit on weekends and we had him all set up with a pager in case I went into labor during the week. We figured he would have plenty of time to drive the two and a half hours before the baby was born.

But like I said, I was homesick. So on a Sunday evening we went back to Dodge City with Rand. I had an appointment the next day with the midwife and figured we'd just return to our little apartment the next day... to wait.

Maddie had other ideas, however. That night, Maddie spent the whole night jump, jump, jump, jumping. I was pretty sure she was going to be born with a jump rope in her hands. Or perhaps she was practicing for a trampoline. Anyway, she bounced until my water broke, sometime around two in the morning, and we made the drive to Wichita in the dark.

She was born at around five in the morning. It was a perfectly lovely, very easy birth. By mid-morning we were back in our little rented apartment in Wichita, napping and enjoying being a family of four.

Hard to believe that was EIGHT years ago. But there you go. She's eight now!

Happy Birthday, Maddie.
