By some totally unplanned course of events (old house sold and we had to pick up a check!) we ended up at the Rainforest Café for lunch today. It would not have been my first choice, nor hubby’s, but the kids were pretty excited about going and we were feeling generous. It took me about two minutes, once I got past looking at the awesome fish tank, to remember why I had once vowed never to return to the place. Talk about some sensory OVERload!
When the waitress took us to our table the gorillas were right in the middle of their little chatter dance. Hubby looked at me and said with disbelief, “Are they going to do this the entire time?”
They don’t, of course, just once every 15 minutes or so. None-the-less, it was enough to trigger my primal instincts and by the end of the meal I could feel my fight-or-flight mechanism about to go on a rampage. The kids all handled it much better than I did. Two of them, in fact, are asking to go there for their birthdays.
We hit a bookstore before heading home (was important for my survival to relax again) and had just enough taste of the Kansas City area traffic for me to remember why I won’t live in a BIG city again.
Had really hoped to get some more unpacking and house rearranging done, but not much was managed today. We did shop for beds, however, and for the first time in nearly 16 years of marriage, hubby and I are going to have a real and proper (not to mention BRAND NEW) bed!!! Yipeeeee!
