Snippets.

Got to spend some good quality time with my middle-munchkin today. She accompanied me on my bike tour around the lake... all 10 miles of it. I was greatly impressed with her stamina, but more than that, her determination. The little wheels on her bike don't go nearly as far as the big wheels on mine. I bet, in fact, that she easily pedaled five times as much as I did. There were a few steep hills where we got off and walked it, but for the most part, we rode. It was slower going than on my own, but well worth the time.

On Saturday, we made a family trip to the Farmer's Market. They have a wonderful market here. Many vendors. Everything from your hobby gardner with a few extra bell peppers and tomatoes in the patch to your full-fledged farmer with plenty to offer from the orchards, veggie patches, and the pastures. You can buy buffalo meat or free-range chicken. Apples by the bushel. Lots of baked goods. And every kind of handicraft you can imagine. This week, we only came home with onions and peppers. The cinnamon rolls (kids & hubby) and burrito (me) were eaten up on the way!

My son finally found his balance on wheels this weekend. We've been skating fairly regularly, but he has never shown much enthusiasm, and the last couple of times, has completely opted out of even trying. This weekend, however, he decided to put on skates expressly for participation in the limbo.

How low can you go?
Turns out, he had to do about an hour of skating before they got to the limbo, but he skated like a champ and allowed me to drag him around the rink numerous times. When the limbo finally rolled around, he stood in line like a seasoned veteran. He's not too speedy, but his arms had kind of this windmill effect that seemed to keep him rolling. When he reached the bar he'd kind of duck and turn his head so that he could look up at the bar as he passed beneath it. It was really something to see, and gave his father the giggles something awful.

Being one of the shortest of the group, he actually made it to the final three. A winner on his first limbo! What more could a kid ask for?
