20 Years

December 29, 1990
I married my best friend.

20 years later, and still my favorite thing in the world to do is to just hang out with this man.

On Monday, we went to Southmoreland on the Plaza, an urban inn. It's a little bed and breakfast in Kansas City... just a little get-away because it felt like we ought to do something extravagant to celebrate 20 years. We've had a history of being so practical... starting with forgoing the honeymoon to get back to work.

No more. We deserve to play. So we played.

Had a culinary experience (it's not enough to just simply say we ate there) at Fogo de Chao on the Plaza. I had the house drink, a short little glass full of limes that made you feel as if you were getting drunk on the meat itself. There were at least a half a dozen items on the salad bar of which I had no idea what they were. I tried them anyway. Most were worth going back for seconds. The cheese bread, although delicious, reminded me strongly of biscuits from the can.

The highlight, of course, was the four-story Barnes and Noble which is alluring enough to me that I find myself agreeing to return to the Plaza even though I am so not in my element there. The bookstore... we browsed for hours. I settled on Mark Twain's Autobiography because I'm on a fiction hiatus for the moment. It's wonderful. It makes me laugh out loud. I'm pretty sure it's one I'll be reading with the kids.

Now we are back home and we've hugged on the kids and plans are being made for a full week. We have shingle hanging to do. More on that to come. Changes. Changes. Changes. The coming year is going to be a good one.

Congratulations on your 20th anniversary, Tracy. You guys must be doing something right. And neat that you hopped over to the plaza to celebrate.

It was a cold, blistery day
20 years ago, but look how
warm it has turned out!
