Weekend at Cottonwood Falls

This past weekend, the kids and I went small town touring with my good friend, HeyMom. (She has better pictures and one even includes me!) Our destination was Cottonwood Falls, where they were having the re-opening of the oldest still-operating courthouse in Kansas.

Chase County Courthouse was build 1871-1872 and they've been working on the restoration since 2000. It's very picturesque, and cool for the kids to see because this is one of the counties the hubby travels to as an attorney on occasion.

As part of the opening ceremonies, they fired cannons. Little boy thought this was way cool and got to view the cannons up close later on and get his photo taken with a real "soldier" from the 3rd Kansas Light Artillery, Battery B.

Here the kids pose in front of a miniature of the courthouse.

Trying out a room in the historic jail. It was pretty dark and creepy.
